Highlights High Five Named Among Year's 15 Hottest Magazine Launches

New Magazine Aimed at Pre-readers Selected Out of 700 New Publications

November 7, 2007 (Columbus, OH)Highlights High Five, a new publication edited for children ages 2 to 6, has been named one of the 15 "hottest" new magazine launches. The honor was bestowed by min (Media Industry Newsletter) and partner Samir Husni Ph.D., chair of the University of Mississippi journalism department who is known in the industry as "Mr. Magazine." The magazine was selected from over 700 new publications that launched between October 2006 and September 2007.

Highlights High Five Magazine Cover"We're delighted with this industry recognition," says Highlights High Five Editor in Chief Christine Clark. "With the increasing marketing of electronic gadgets for children, we're pleased to show how dynamic an ink-and-paper magazine can be, serving our current audiences and creating new ones."

The US Department of Education found that over the last 10 years, there has been a rise in parents reading to their 3 to 5 year old children. This increase may be due to improved awareness of the importance of reading aloud as a way to help prepare kids to learn to read.

"We've had a great response from parents and early childhood educators who are embracing High Five as a way to set young children firmly on the path toward literacy," Clark adds. "They see how the magazine helps them foster their children's natural sense of wonder about the world. It makes engaging with their child fun and easy-and that's when children learn best."

"To publish a magazine with a tagline of 'Fun with Purpose' might have been the norm when Highlights began 60 years ago, but to publish one in 2007 that offers content that lives up to that motto is a rarity," says Husni. "Highlights High Five is a magazine that still focuses on customers who count, not on counting customers."

Highlights High Five is published by Highlights for Children, one of the most established magazine publishers in the country.
