Cooking with Your Kids

Cooking is a great way for parents and kids to share time together. The kids learn, you get a helper, and you end up with something delicious.

Here's a simple recipe for "Veggie Roll-Ups", which first appeared in the August 2007 issue of Highlights High Five. It works with kids of all ages, doesn't use the stove, and creates a healthy and delicious treat.

Child preparing Veggie Roll-Up
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Wash some lettuce leaves.
  3. Chop some favorite veggies (carrots, bell peppers, etc.).
  4. Spread salad dressing on each lettuce leaf.
  5. In the center of each lettuce leaf add some chopped vegetables and grated cheese.
  6. Fold each lettuce leaf so the filling stays inside. Enjoy your tasty, healthy finger food!
