Make Valentine Cards That Are Original and Creative

  1. Family Pictures
Reproduce family photos on a scanner or copy machine. Paste photos onto cardboard hearts. Decorate the hearts with pieces of fabric from treasured but outgrown clothing (or outgrown dolls clothes). Then add ribbons, lace or paper doilies.

  2. Quill Curls for Cards
    3-D Cards with quill curl
The quill curl card is a featured craft in the February, 2008 issue of Highlights. Here's how to make these elegant cards.
    1. Tape two flat toothpicks back to back. Leave about a half inch of the toothpicks free of tape at one end.
    2. Cut strips of colored paper 1/4 inch wide and 8 inches long.
    3. Slip one end of a paper strip between the toothpicks. Wrap the paper strip tightly around the end by twirling the toothpicks.
    4. Carefully slide the finished curl off the end of the toothpicks.
    5. Glue curls on construction-paper cards as decoration.

  3. Valentine's Vehicles
If you have kids who love things that go, help them draw and cut out vehicle shaped cards. Create messages that suit the design (Choo, Choo, I love you! Blast off with me Valentine!).
