New York Times Features Highlights Hidden Pictures App

App Named One of the Best "To Keep Children Happy"

If you are traveling this holiday season, the New York Times Practical Traveler column has advice for which apps will keep your kids busy in the backseat. In their list of the top 12 apps for children, they included Highlights Hidden Pictures for the iPhone and iPod. “Hunting for the hidden pictures requires focus, which translates into quiet for long stretches,” says the Times.

Highlights offers a free version at www.Highlights.com/apps, and a full version for $1.99.

The seek-and-find game challenges visual skills as gamers locate hidden objects within Highlights' classic illustrations. The game features kid-friendly illustrations with over a hundred hidden objects to find. When objects are found, they turn from black and white to color and a sound chimes to announce your discovery. The game was developed by MoBaD Games along with Highlights.

A Hidden Pictures feature appeared in the first issue of Highlights magazine in 1946, and quickly became a favorite among its readers. “The game was designed to grow visual discrimination skills, increase attention span and build children’s confidence,” says Highlights magazine Editor-in-Chief Christine French Cully, “but we’ve found over time that adults find them quite addictive as well.”
