In April 2015, with the goal of taking a comprehensive view of the opportunities available in the evolving education marketplace, Lesa Scott joined Highlights as president of the Education Group. In this newly formed position, Scott oversees the Highlights for Children educational subsidiaries Stenhouse Publishing, Staff Development for Educators (SDE), Zaner-Bloser (ZB) and Educational Learning Products (ELP). ZB also provides digital content based on the classroom resources.
Scott has 30-plus years in the educational publishing space with 75 percent of her career spent between Scott Foresman and Heinemann publishers. Prior to moving into publishing, Scott taught school in Arkansas and Texas. Scott is a product of the public school and college system and has a deep passion for supporting educators in their roles of educating all students. She is also a 10-year participant on the New Hampshire City Year Board of Directors.
Scott said her personal passion for education and her affinity for Highlights’ mission and culture are what attracted her to the new position.
“This role offers both the focus and structure to ask how we might better serve both teachers and students three, five and 10 years from now,” she said. “I’m deeply honored and excited to take these unique education companies to the next level.”
