Welcome the sunniest time of year with a seasonal banner that is sure to brighten any setting, plus give kids the chance to practice their spelling and artistic skills! Now, where to hang the sign? The porch? A party tent? A wall in the kitchen? A fence by the pool? A beach canopy? Let family consensus decide!

What You’ll Need
  • Cardstock
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Hole punch
  • String
What to Do
  1. Cut out six rectangles from cardstock.
  2. Cut construction paper into letters to spell S-U-M-M-E-R. Glue a letter to each rectangle and decorate it in a cheery way.
  3. Punch holes in the top two corners of each rectangle. Connect the letters with string.
Extend the Fun

For younger kids: Make a sign that spells your name, your initials, your pet’s name, or your family’s last name. When relatives or friends visit, make a WELCOME banner.

For older kids: Are you selling things this summer, or putting on a play? The same kind of sign, with different words, works at your lemonade stand, farm stand, flower mart, or summer theater.
