You know how it is when you try to strike up a conversation with your kid and he doesn’t quite hear you…or he’s too busy to respond? We know. We’ve been there. That’s why we love our monthly feature BrainPlay. It provides you—and your kid—with a series of thought-provoking, challenging, and super-creative (read: not annoying) questions that are among the most fun ever.

Check out the post below or catch up with the feature on page 6 of the October issue, or download the printable October questions here.

BrainPlay

Here’s the cool thing about BrainPlay: it is, without a doubt, one of the most creative—and entertaining—ways to spend time with your child, and to get to know what she’s thinking, without subjecting her to the sometimes invasive or ill-timed queries that inevitably come along with day-to-day living.

Each month, Highlights offers up seriously stimulating open-ended questions—11 in all—your kid can use to boost his thinking skills, or just for fun, in any order he likes, with as much or as little detail as he feels like giving. This month’s queries encourage children to imagine the improbable (elephant Olympics) and recall what they see and hear in nature.

Try tossing out one or two topics a day—at breakfast, on the way to school, or just before bedtime. Better yet, try answering a few on your own, or with your kid, and see how many responses you have in common.
