This bag of traditional sugar-cookie mix has a spicy twist: cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Give this mix to someone special, with a reminder to make the dough a day ahead of time so it has time to chill.

- Index card
- 4 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Plastic storage bag
- Crayons or markers
- Twist tie
- Ribbon
Before You Begin
Adult: Write the recipe (see below) on an index card. Or use our printable recipe card and gift tag!
What to Do
- Pour the dry ingredients into a plastic storage bag.
- Punch a hole at the top of the recipe index card. Decorate the card with crayons or markers.
- Close the bag with a twist tie. Thread a ribbon through the hole in the card and tie the ribbon around the bag.

Spicy Sugar Cookies
(Makes about 9 dozen cookies)
Melt 1½ cups of shortening. Let cool. Mix together the shortening, 2 cups of sugar, ½ cup of molasses, and 2 eggs. Beat well.
Add the contents of this bag. Mix well. Chill 3 hours or overnight. Form into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar.
Place on a cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375˚F for 8–10 minutes.
Store the cookies in an airtight container.
