Highlights for Children today announces that it has appointed Marie O’Neill as Creative Director of Editorial. In this newly created role, O’Neill will lead the overall design sensibility for all children’s products published or licensed under the Highlights brand and its imprints, including all three Highlights magazines, kids’ websites, retail products, and books.
O’Neill is a tenured Creative Director with an extensive publishing background that spans books, magazines, websites, and digital apps. Over the course of her career, she has designed print materials for preschool through middle-school children, as well as developed multimedia tools, which include a custom curriculum app and a website that tracks students’ reading time during the summer.
Prior to joining Highlights, O’Neill was Creative Director at Scholastic for 17 years. Earlier in her career, she worked as Executive Art Director at Weekly Reader, where she was responsible for the design of a dozen magazines and ancillary materials.
“Marie has a wealth of design experience that will be valuable in ensuring all of Highlights children’s products have the right look and feel, which, we believe, is an important part of how we connect with families,” said Christine Cully, Editor-in-Chief of Highlights. “We know Marie will be an asset to Highlights, and I’m delighted to have her focused on this area of our business.”
O’Neill holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the College of New Rochelle. She will be based at the Highlights editorial offices in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
