Story: Happy Noon Year [1]

Staying up until midnight on New Year’s Eve can be tricky for young kids. This story shows one family’s tradition to celebrate the new year at noon!
It’s December 31, the last day of the year.
Grown-ups celebrate New Year’s Eve, waiting for the clock to click from 11:59 p.m. to midnight. But my sister and I like to celebrate Noon Year.
We meet up with our friends at the park.
Mom sets an alarm on her phone. When it’s almost noon, she calls us to gather around.
We count down the last ten seconds together.
“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Happy Noon Year!”
Then we make a lot of noise to welcome in the new year.
It’s not really January 1 yet—that happens in twelve hours when we’re asleep.
Tomorrow we will hang up our new calendars and start counting the twelve months all over again!
