3D Christmas Tree [1]

The perfect tree for any space!
What You’ll Need
  • 2 piece of green construction paper or card stock

  • Pencil

  • Scissors

  • Stickers

  • Ribbon

  • Glue

What to Do
  1. Stack the two pieces of paper.

  2. Draw the outline of a Christmas tree.

  3. Cut out the tree, cutting through both pieces of paper. Now you have two trees!

  4. Take one tree and make a cut from the bottom up to the middle of the tree.

  5. Take the other tree and make a cut from the top down to the middle of the tree.

  6. Take the tree with the cut on the bottom and slide it on top of the other tree. The two cuts will help the trees connect.

  7. Decorate your tree with stickers and ribbons.

Extend the Fun

Younger kids: The two trees will be perpendicular to each other. Explain what perpendicular means to your little one (being at right angles to a given line or plane, says Merriam-Webster [2]). Then look around and try to find other examples of things that are perpendicular. When you can give a specific, real-world example of a word’s definition, your child will have an easier time understanding and remembering it.

Older kids: Once you have the hang of this craft, have fun making more trees. Experiment with different colors and decorations. Make a special tree for each person in your family. Or make trees that you can give to neighbors as gifts. People will love seeing this standing tree, especially if it’s been made just for them!

Let your kids get cutting and gluing to make a magical tree. Then think about making a paper tree for a neighbor!
