Story: Helpers in the Community [1]

Bebo and Juan were eating lunch on a bench when they heard a loud siren.
“¡Es un camión de bomberos!” said Juan.
“That fire truck is going fast,” said Bebo. “It carries firefighters who help rescue people.”
Then they heard another siren.
“¡Es un auto de policía!” said Juan, looking around.
A police officer stepped out of the car and started directing traffic.
“Police officers help keep us safe,” said Bebo.
Later, they heard another sound across the street, beep, beep, beep.
“¡Es una grúa!” said Juan, pointing to a tall crane moving at a construction site.
“Construction workers make buildings for people to live in or work in,” said Bebo. “All those
workers help other people.”
“¿Cómo podemos ayudar nosotros?” asked Juan.
“We can help by throwing away our trash,” said Bebo.
The two friends tossed their trash into the garbage bin and recycled their paper bags. Then
they strolled down the sidewalk toward home.
