State of the Kid 2016 Results

Each year for our State of the Kid™ report, we try to select topics that allow us to give unique insight into how kids view the world they live in. This year we focused on the upcoming election and the role of the president.

  • We explored kids' feelings when they are disciplined and their thoughts on whether discipline was effective. We then asked how they would discipline their own children.
  • We asked how parents responded when kids asked them to buy them something (and what, if anything, kids did to convince them). We also asked if children received an allowance and if they did chores to earn it.
  • We questioned how kids felt about participation trophies. Should everyone get recognition or only the winners?

As in the past, kids' responses were sometimes funny, consistently thoughtful and honest, and unfailingly informative. We hope that you find what kids have to say as fascinating as we did.
