Global Content Licensing Specialist

Reporting to the Territory Director, this role is responsible for our Rights & Permissions business, a global series of partnerships that license Highlights and Zaner-Bloser reading materials, videos and animations, audio, and intellectual property to digital and print partners primarily in the US. This entrepreneurial role will develop partnerships with major educational publishing and assessment companies, digital reading platforms, library focused distributors, and other similar types of organizations.

This revenue-generating position requires a detail-focused approach to develop and execute on a business strategy to maximize success. This role is outward facing and must find new customers and partners to expand our reach. The position will also work closely with internal departments to ensure the proper support and service for Highlights customer satisfaction. This role is busy and dynamic and requires strong interpersonal and results-focus skills and organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be the primary sales point of contact for most US based licensing, rights, and permissions based partners and distributors
  • Manage and deliver against annual sales and profit quotas through maximizing our content partnerships within the territory and channels.
  • Drive the contract negotiation and closing process, including negotiating multi-year licensing agreements
  • Work diligently with each partner to ensure licensed content maximizes partner needs and educational and brand fit within each specific use of Highlights materials
  • Develop effective content and sales presentations for Highlights customer base
  • Create an annual sales plan and maintain updated forecasts on the pipeline within Salesforce
  • Prepare for, attend, and staff critical trade shows to meet with major partners. Other domestic travel as necessary to further partnership and sales conversations
  • Work with sales colleagues and internal partners to grow market share against competing brands, drive strategic promotions throughout the year, and develop new sales channels beyond traditional outlets. 

  • Liaise with internal partners, including editorial, marketing, accounting, legal, and operations teams to represent interests of customers and proactively identify problems before they arise and recommend solutions

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • A minimum of 5 previous years direct work experience in publishing, content licensing, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years involved in intellectual property sales and content licensing/negotiations.
  • Experience with major educational publishing organization in editorial, marketing, or sales roles a strong plus
  • Robust organization and prioritization skills to successfully operate in a fast-paced environment with competing demands, tasks, and timetables
  • Excellent communication (verbal, interpersonal and presentation) skills
  • Ability to provide prompt, accurate, and efficient communication to internal and external partners, including a strong attention to details.
  • Strong customer-focused skills with ability to understand financial impact of content and brand based partnerships.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate successfully with all levels and functions internally and across the customer base; team orientation
  • Publishing/Children’s product experience, preferred
  • Foreign Language skills, a plus
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM system, a plus
  • Travel may occur 4-8 times per year
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
