The Texas Literacy Consultant works closely with the Texas sales team to develop and implement selling strategies and tactics for Zaner-Bloser program and services solutions. Assists with setting objectives for sales plans, and actively participates in executing those plans including pre sales and implementation. Designs and delivers sales presentations, workshops, and conference sessions.  Supports the oversight of a team of intermittent staff (per-diems) for pre sales. Works closely with Regional sales leadership and marketing to lead retention cross sell opportunities.  Participates in developing and executing regional and national internal training sessions. Must stay informed of competitive products. Must be able to travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Texas Literacy Consultant is responsible for contributing to the growth and profitability of Zaner Bloser through the promotion of its unique suite of K-5 literacy solutions including programs and services.  The successful candidate will be assigned to work in Texas particularly, but not exclusively, in those sales opportunities requiring bilingual (Spanish) expertise.   This position will have a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Texas Sales Manager.  As such, the Texas Literacy Consultant is an extended member of the Texas Sales team.

The essential duties and responsibilities are comprised of both pre-sales and post-sales responsibilities and include the following:

Pre-Sales Responsibilities (90%)

  • Delivering engaging and competitive solution sales presentations, workshops, and conference sessions for core literacy, supplemental literacy solutions, and related services (face to face and via the web as appropriate)
  • Supporting Sales team members with curriculum and educational issues expertise sales calls, regional strategy, and territory planning,  
  • Providing expertise in the development and delivery of Training and Internal Professional Development at the regional and national levels to meet Sales and Marketing priorities
  • Managing the activity of regional intermittent employees (per diems) through the use of ZB’s CRM and other platforms
  • Lending subject matter expertise to presentation development, RFPs, and input to bids and contracts as assigned.
  • Appropriately, and with approval, customizing Sales presentations and workshop content to meet the needs of regional sales and marketing initiatives and local customers.
  • Manage program pilots including an approval process  (based on protocols established with VP Sales) and assuring pilots receive the appropriate support
  • Working close with Marketing to lend subject matter expertise to create content for use in regionalized social media and other marketing initiatives.
  • Champion Sales Initiatives with support from marketing and other departments; such as the ZB National Handwriting Contest
  • Provide expertise to inform targeted Sales/ Marketing Campaigns
  • May provide subject matter expertise for post sales when approved by VP of Sales
  • Providing continuous input on product and market issues through a process developed by Marketing and Product Development
  • Other responsibilities as directed by Vice President Sales and needs of the business

Post- Sales:  Account Management and Retention (10%)

  • Following up with new and existing key accounts to position cross-sells including services in assigned Region and in coordination with Regional Director/ Manager and Inside Sales Partners
  • ADVISORY role to support professional development team create post sales training materials


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Education or Business (Masters’ Degree or MBA preferred) 
  • 3 previous years direct work experience in sales, marketing, training, or commensurate experience.
  • Bilingual fluent in Spanish
  • ELL/ESL teaching credential from the state of Texas desirable
  • 3+ years in training or professional development
  • 3+ in the elementary classroom or equivalent
  • 3+ years in educational publishing in sales or training a plus
  • Proven ability to effectively teach and coach adults
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational landscape and literacy issues
  • Demonstration of working collaboratively across organizational functions
  • Role-model level presentation skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite with an emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Skype for Business
  • Thorough knowledge of Zoom, WebEx, or other web based presentation and collaboration platform
  • Must have the ability to travel regionally 75% of the time for internal meetings, customer presentations, events, and sales calls


  • Certified to teach K-5 (or equivalent licensure); state of Texas preferred
  • Must be able and willing to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • 75% Regional Travel (car, train, plane)
