Highlights has an exciting opportunity in our Marketing Development Program which is designed to rapidly develop recent college graduates and prepare them for future marketing roles.  The selected trainees will participate in a two-year rotational program and will have the opportunity to work with three to four unique consumer marketing teams.  Consumer marketing teams include Highlights magazines and subscription products marketing, e-commerce, digital apps, strategic analytics and operations.  During the two-year program the trainee will learn and apply the fundamentals of direct-to-consumer marketing and campaign analysis.  Trainees will also gain experience partnering with teams in Creative, Finance, and IT.

Core Responsibilities could include:

  • Analyzing prior marketing campaigns and assessing segmentation opportunities.  Studying financial and campaign reports to track specifics costs to tie back to sources and campaigns and assessing performance against budgets.
  • Conducting competitive landscape reviews and testing recommendations.
  • Conducting the planning for a direct marketing campaign end-to-end.
  • Developing marketing test plans for both print and digital magazine and subscription expansion opportunities. 
  • Participating in a new product launch campaign.
  • Learning and building the components of a successful media plan; understanding and analyzing marketing campaign performance and conductions test analysis reporting.  Work in Excel and Tableau to conduct analysis, reporting and media planning work.
  • Define, execute and measure tests for digital channels (social, search, email, etc.)
  • Learn the principals of how websites are built, how to use our tools at a basic level, building a basic understanding of Highlights’ specific website architecture.
  • Project manage e-commerce projects through the Creative and Development processes.
  • Learn to write requirements/creative briefs/grooming documents for new features to be built on website.
  • Participate in creating and managing digital applications marketing campaigns.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Finance, Business, Analytics or Strategic Communications with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Prior business or corporate internship experience.
  • Leadership experience during on-campus or other organizational participation.
  • Strong financial and analytic acumen.
  • Curiosity with respect to data and analysis.
  • Above average computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, relationship building and organizational skills.
  • Deadline driven, project management, and process focused.
