Product Procurement Manager

Responsible for planning, execution and project management of the company’s supply chain process for all print production. In addition the Product Procurement Manager will collaborate internally and externally with vendors, while managing the flow of information to ensure timely and efficient delivery within budget. Oversee the work of staff within the department to monitor the quality of product, ensuring deadlines are met. Interacts with several different cross functional teams internally to understand their objectives and offer practical solutions.  

Responsibilities:

  • Determine the best method to produce requested print projects, taking into account schedule, budget, end usage intent and quality requirements.
  • Verify all specs are in compliance with SIMRA, CPISA & SFI regulations where necessary.
  • Completion of form Bs and Ms for adoption consideration.
  • Collaborate with Product Development, Art & Design, and Marketing to make certain their objective and offer practical solutions.
  • Oversee file submissions and proof approvals.
  • Construct RFQ spreadsheets and submit to qualified vendors for pricing analysis and vendor selection.
  • Establish schedules with print vendors for file release, paper & component delivery and proofing deadlines.
  • Obtain templates and PDF settings for Art & Design.
  • Generate purchase orders for components, manufacturing and raw materials.
  • Build cost estimates to incorporate all elements to obtain the final cost of the total project.
  • Work with inventory control for recommend optimal reprint quantities and determine raw material purchase based on long range planning.
  • Attend press checks at printer to approve print and color for all new jobs.
  • Formulate print plan to map the most economical approach to use at the printer. Negotiate volume rebates, discount terms and EOP details with vendors.
  • Research, meet and qualify new vendors based on capabilities, quality and pricing structure.
  • Determine stock best suited for each new program based on cost, usage and desired characteristics.
  • Track pricing fluctuations and document stock consumption against requirements from printing to printing and collaborate with the vendor when necessary.
  • Work with vendors to revolve issues with product quality and receiving compliances.
  • Determine values necessary for creation of production database.
  • Research, gather specs and test alternative paper stocks to reduce costs and improve our carbon footprint.
  • Train, mentor and oversee print buyer and production assistant. Assessing the workload, evaluating job performance, setting goals and implement a plan for staff development.
  • Record all sustainability efforts for corporate report.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Business, Supply Management, or Print Production required
  • 3-5 years previous work experience in book production and print production management required. 
  • Familiarity with vendors US and overseas desired
  • Prior experience working Art & Design, Editors and Product Development teams
  • 3 yrs. Management experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Understanding of color management as it pertains to offset, flexography, and digital printing and how best to achieve intended results
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Familiar with Word, Outlook, Box or OneDrive
  • Willing to travel infrequently, 15% of work time
