Program Specialist

Program Specialists are responsible for the development and execution of programs for assigned markets and topics.  The Program Specialist's job is to understand target market needs and create programs specifically designed to address those needs.



Program Planning

  • Plan assigned Public Events that are on time, on budget, and meet revenue goals
  • Review date & location research for each program, make recommendation as to optimal dates for program, and once approved, submit booking sheets to Meeting Planners
  • Conduct careful, thorough and current research on funding, initiatives, competitors, topic trends and analyze/summarize research in preparation for program strategy meetings with VP & Program Development Director
  • Understand target market's needs and wants and create programs that specifically address those needs
  • Utilize data available to identify potential presenters and sessions to incorporate into the program
  • Present program in peer review providing summary of research, strategy to the program’s direction, and presenter choice, and be receptive to feedback received during the peer review meeting
  • Develop programs that are on time, on budget, and that meet or exceed goals
  • Take overall responsibility for the success of assigned programs

Presenter Relations & Care

  • Develop and maintain positive, productive business growth-oriented relationships with presenters
  • Work in a nurturing and supporting manner with new and aspiring presenters
  • Identify and recommend potential educational experts/presenters
  • Collect, analyze and communicate attendees feedback to presenters
  • Work in collaboration with Presenters Relations Manager with difficult or sensitive presenter issues
  • Recommend, as appropriate, presenter coaching

Event Support

  • Ensure quality presenter care and outstanding customer experiences when onsite at SDE events (from set-up through departure), and proactively problem-solve and jump-in to help where needed


  • Ensure event details are properly communicated to meeting planning and operations
  • Write a go-to market summary of programs features and benefits, with specific attention to identifying the unique characteristics of a product (reflective of state or topic initiatives, terms, ideals...)
  • Create and manage event documents & communications appropriately
  • Proof & evaluate marketing collateral for accuracy, and appropriateness to program & target market

Customer Awareness

  • Determine customer needs and wants by careful, thorough, and diverse research related to SDE's target market
  • Collect, analyze, and respond to user feedback
  • Follow and participate in social media frequented by target market and extract insights applicable to assigned products
  • Explore data to understand what does and does not motivate customers


  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Work with Program Implementation Coordinators to assure all event details and presenter communications and record-keeping are handled correctly, completely, and on time


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or higher level course work with equivalent work experience required.
  • 3 years teaching experience or equivalent direct work/position experience required
  • Strong problem solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexible and adaptable as you'll be working in-depth with co-workers across all departments
  • Adaptable and able to respond to changes in trends, processes, expectations, and initiatives                                                
  • Intrinsically motivated   
  • Able to travel several times a year to SDE or other industry events
